MIT JR. - COMPETE USA
Compete USA Theatre on Ice events are a fun and exciting way to introduce the world of competitive figure skating to beginner skaters. Our MIT Jr. Team is open to all beginning skaters who are members of Learn to Skate USA or U.S. Figure Skating. No figure skating experience is required to join our Compete USA team.

REQUIREMENTS
Join us on August 22nd and August 29th at the Mylan Park Ice Pavilion in Morgantown, West Virginia to audition for the MIT Jr. Team! We encourage all interested skaters to reach out to our coaching staff.
There are no skill requirements to join the MIT Jr. team. However, skaters will need the following:

A Learn to Skate USA (LTSUSA) or United States Figure Skating (USFS) membership

​White or black figure skates

All-black athletic clothes for practice

FAQs
Is skating experience necessary to join?
​
No. While experience is useful, our MIT Jr. team celebrates beginning skaters and encourages progression in a team environment.

How many competitions or performances do you do each season?
​
In the fall season, we aim for two performances, one in October and another in December. In the spring season, the team will compete twice, once in March and again in May.

What kind of music/themes do you use in your programs?
​
Music is selected based on the Theatre on Ice axes for the season. Music and themes are always age-appropriate and chosen with each year's team in mind.
Are there off-ice practices?
​
Yes. We learn choreography off ice before bringing the movements to the ice. This helps our team commit choreography to memory.

Do skaters need private lessons in addition to team practice?
​
We encourage skaters to continue building individual skills with their private lesson coach, but private lessons are not necessary to join MIT Jr.

What if my child is shy or nervous performing?
​
Theatre on Ice is a discipline that allows skaters' personalities to shine! Being a part of a group often encourages even the most shy skaters to perform.
